Canal Art-Roses & Castles
Tim Whitelock

Canal Art-Roses & Castles is the colourful decoration found on working narrow boats that travelled the many narrow canals that radiated out from the Midlands. It was the ‘Folk Art’ of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s that has been gradually adapted to suit contemporary boats while living on, in a pure form, with historical narrow boats. The traditional styles included Roses, Daisies and Castle paintings.
Tim’s interest in canal art started in the early 1970’s after a family holiday on the canals. He took up canal art as a hobby about forty years ago and went on to teach it for a number of years. In 2021 Tim set up a Facebook Group called Canal Art-Roses & Castles for those who have a serious interest in the subject, want to learn more, share information and ask questions. Tim attends occasional craft sales and some of his work can be found at: Lotus Cottage, Hall Street, Long Melford, Suffolk. CO10 9HZ
Tim also offers a number of talks including canal art. A complete list of his talks can be found on his website.
